Generating Sitemaps for Search Engines

Help Search Engines Find Your Content

A sitemap is an XML file that tells search engines about all the pages on your site. SynaptikCMS includes a built-in Sitemap Generator.

What's in a Sitemap?

Your generated sitemap includes your homepage, all published articles, pages, projects, and category archive pages.

Using the Sitemap Generator

Navigate to Tools > Sitemap Generator, click 'Generate Sitemap' and your sitemap.xml file is created in your site's root directory. That's it, you are done!

However, don't forget to submit your sitemap to Google and Bing for them to index your site, as they will not index and explore on their own. 

Pinging Search Engines

After generating your sitemap, you can optionally ping Google and Bing to notify them of changes.

Adding to robots.txt

Add this line to your robots.txt: Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml
